Oriental Beauty Oolong Tea

$12.10

PROFILE: MUSCATEL, CITRUS, HONEY SWEET

ORIGIN: MOC CHAU, SON LA, VIETNAM

HARVEST: JULY 2018 or JULY 2020

We are thrilled that we have once again been able to secure a batch of this exquisite oolong tea. We now have a new 2020 summer offering as well as the remaining 2018 harvest which has continued to age well.

A ‘bug bitten’ oolong our Oriental Beauty is produced from the leaves of the Thanh Tam (or “Qingxin”) cultivar.  It is subjected to a high degree of oxidation and a careful drying cycle to emphasise the wonderful flavour compounds released by the leaves after the leafhopper insects have sucked juices from them.

Oriental Beauty can only be produced in small batches during the summer months when the leafhoppers are plentiful – provided that the weather is not too wet.

The 2020 Oriental Beauty is reminiscent of the earlier 2016 harvest that was so popular with vibrant aromas of honey, pear, citrus, muscatel and rose petals. The aroma of 2018 Oriental Beauty is more subdued, although strong in muscatel notes, but it delivers a wonderful sweet aftertaste and finish that lingers lovingly in the throat.

Oriental Beauty is produced on the Moc Chau plateau at altitudes between 1100 and 1200 metres.  It is truly a rare tea of great quality.

I thought Floating Cloud is the best tea I have ever tasted. I was wrong. I am officially becoming the biggest fan of Oriental Beauty. The tea is so delicate. The way it develops is truly beautiful. Good name. :) And the smell. It reminds me of all the good things that happened in my life so far. I cannot really put it into words. It's the warmth of my grandma, the sunny skies of my home town, the adventure of a journey, the excitement of a new love.

Buy this tea! This is one of those situations where I hate say "for the price", because it doesn't do the tea justice. This tea is a fantastic example of oriental beauty at any price, but for THIS price? Buy this tea, buy it, buy it now. I bought 100g to try and then went back and bought darn near a pound the next week. It really is that good.
