Fish Hook is a farm grown green tea from the Tan Cuong district of Thai Nguyen province. Fish Hook is a very traditional Vietnamese style green tea with a distinctive fresh-cut grassy, but surprisingly sweet, flavour - unfolding with a hint of seaweed in later infusions. Toasted nuts, brown sugar and young rice are other flavours that customers frequently pick out. Tan Cuomg tea is very popular with Vietnamese tea drinkers who prefer to brew it strong in order to savour the long sweet floral aftertaste. It is equally as enjoyable and refreshing, however, when brewed more gently.
Fish Hook is a one bud and one leaf green tea that is harvested and processed on a small eight hectare farm. It is produced in small batches only using traditional hand crafted techniques based around the tea-makers skill, wood fired ovens and simple rolling machines. The twisted rolling into a characteristic hook shape is the inspiration for the tea's name.
Thai Nguyen is the most famous province within Vietnam for tea and Tan Cuong is one of the most well-known communities for tea within Thai Nguyen; famed for the sweetness of its teas. Tan Cuong nestles in the eastern foothills of the Tam Dao mountain range at an altitude of 500 metres. Its sheltered position and micro climate are responsible for the strength and vitality of its tea plants.
