PROFILE: SPARKLING, GREEN VEGETABLES, MOSS, FOREST, MINERALS, LIGHT SMOKE

ORIGIN: Y TY, LAO CAI, VIETNAM

HARVEST: APRIL 2024

Buffalo Horn is a brand-new green tea created in collaboration with our good friends in the Y Ty commune of Lao Cai’s Bat Xat district - the makers of Forest Genie.

Buffalo Horn has a stimulating mix of green vegetable, moss and mineral notes, with a background hint of wood smoke. Early brews remind us of fresh peas, green beans, and baby spinach – someone said: ‘flowers after the rain’. In later brews, mossy and slate, mineral notes wake up to take centre stage.

The tea liquor is a bright, crisp, and cheerful pale-yellow liquor with medium to full bodied mouthfeel. Some may experience a light astringency, but it is not at all unpleasant. A long finish and generous sweet aftertaste will leave you thirsting for more.

The wild tea areas in Y Ty are among the highest and most remote in Vietnam. Many of the trees grow in protected primeval forests at altitudes between 1600 and 1800 metres. The area is dominated by the cloud shrouded Nhiu Co San mountain, otherwise known to H’Mong people as “Sung Trau”, or Buffalo Horn.

Buffalo Horn green tea is completely hand-made. Firing and drying is performed on a cast iron wood-fired pan while rolling is done by hand in bamboo trays. This is a great new tea to complement our range and has bags of potential.
