PROFILE: SUBTLE, SWEET POTATO, PINE FOREST
ORIGIN: SUOI GIANG, YEN BAI, VIETNAM
HARVEST: APRIL 2024
Mountain Mist is a beautiful and subtle buds only silver needle white tea crafted from the misty mountain slopes of Suoi Giang in Yen Bai province. This is a sumptuously mellow tea with delicate notes of sweet potato, pine and melon combining with a pleasing body and mouthfeel. In later infusions you will discover unfolding flavours of enoki mushrooms and an increasing gentle sweetness.
Mountain Mist tea is very lightly processed hand-made tea. Leaf buds are carefully sorted, separated and selected for size and consistency before undergoing an extended wither in cool conditions, gentle drying and hand rolling.
Suoi Giang (literally: heavenly river) is a small commune located in the misty mountains of Yen Bai province. It nestles in an area surrounded by the ancient shaded forests, at altitudes between 1300 and 1400 metres, where wild tea trees have been grown by ethnic minority families for many hundreds of years. H'Mong families continue to harvest the leaves today either for their own consumption as fresh tea or for processing as dried leaves. Apart from tea the district is also known for sticky rice and hot springs.

Robust and balanced
The leaves' aroma is briny with floral scents and subtle sweetness. This drinks like white tea, but it is also more robust than many whites. Early steeps have a pleasing bitterness and unique element that reminds me a little of the chestnut flavor in a good long jing green tea. Nice grounded / focused qi in the upper torso. Excellent value and a good tea any time. Especially nice in summer.
Lovely and savory
Absolutely gorgeous fragrance and complex, savory taste. The broth itself is extremely soupy and reminisces of perhaps a creamy dish of alfredo. Have yet to find a white tea as savory and as cheap as this one.
Outstanding
Steeped 6 times at 80°C for 2-8 minutes. First two steeps thick and honeydew melon taste with just a faint tartness. Exciting. Later steeps less fruity but still soft and sweet with good mouth feel. Leaves downy and uniform. Outstanding white tea.
